Thanks to Barbie, Girls Everywhere Believe in the Power of “You Can Be Anything”

GCI Newsroom | August 25, 2016

Girls can be anything, and four-year old Barbie fan, Shiya, recently had the chance to prove just that when she lived out her dream of being a professional baker for a day.  On behalf of our client, Mattel, GCI arranged for CAKE Bake Shoppe in Calgary to host Shiya as a baker-in-training as part of the Barbie #YouCanBeAnything campaign.  Working with bakery owner, Tanya, Shiya, got her hands dirty in the kitchen and baked the best Barbie dream cake Calgary has ever seen!  Shiya’s mom, Loni, who captured the experience through a series of fantastic photos, was thrilled to see her daughter in action: “Thank you everyone for creating this opportunity for Shiya!  I truly think this is what every little girl needs!”

Barbie’s #YouCanBeAnything encourages girls everywhere to imagine and believe they can become anything, from firefighter to doctor to athletic coach, and the possibilities are endless!  To spread this message and celebrate the dreams of girls across Canada, from April 28 to May 2 Barbie invited them to pose for a photo dressed in their career of choice, and share it on the You Can Be Anything event page on Facebook.  On May 16th, four lucky girls were selected to live out their career aspirations for a day, including Shiya.

Shiya’s You Can Be Anything experience was picked up by several local and national media outlets, including CTV Calgary, Breakfast Television, CTV National News, The Anchor and 660 News, making the day a success in more ways than one.  Thanks to Barbie, Shiya, and many other young girls, have been empowered to work towards their dream career and truly believe in the power of You Can Be Anything.
