The “GCI Communicators” Are Preparing for the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer

GCI Newsroom | July 25, 2016

On Saturday, September 10th, the “GCI Communicators” will be walking 25km through the streets of Toronto, uniting with thousands of others, in support of the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer. OneWalk is dedicated to raising funds on behalf of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the world’s preeminent cancer research facilities.

This year Marion MacKenzie, President, GCI Canada, also acts as one of the 2016 Honourary OneWalk co-chairs.

“I am honoured to have been asked,” says Marion. “Cancer, unfortunately touches most people’s lives and this year sadly I have lost two people, a wonderful aunt and also a wonderful friend, who were very important to me. Participating in OneWalk is a small way of celebrating them and contributing to the work of eradicating cancer. “I am also proud that GCIers will be participating as a team, ‘Communicators’. We take great pride in our culture and team spirit, and also our professional communications work in the healthcare sector.”

To date, the “GCI Communicators” have raised $3650. With your help, we can reach our goal of $20,000, which will positively impact cancer research here in Canada. To learn more about our fundraising efforts, or to make a donation to our team goal, please visit our team page. The Canadian Cancer Society reports that approximately half of all Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and 1 in 4 will die from the disease. The Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer supports the work of leading researchers and clinicians at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. To date, OneWalk has raised over $145 million in support of research, in-hospital survivorship programs, and many clinical enhancements, all focused on increasing survivorship and supporting patients.
