Account Supervisor

We’re growing and want to add an Account Supervisor to our team. This role will work primarily on clients in the consumer sector, but there may also be the opportunity to work with health and corporate clients.

Strong organization skills, the ability to prioritize and multitask and knowing how to lead within a team are essential. And, of course, as a budding Idea Architect, you’ll be expected to share ideas proactively, openly and confidently in meetings and brainstorms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of your client’s business and industry
  • Continually enhance your knowledge about your client’s business environment
  • Serve as the “go-to” client contact, anticipate client needs and offer creative solutions
  • Be proactive and work with senior team members to drive program planning
  • Deliver sound media relations and influencer strategies and foster relationships with media and influencers
  • Proactively identify and execute traditional earned media, social media, digital and influencer opportunities
  • Manage client budgets and coordinate billing to ensure invoices are issued in a timely manner
  • Negotiate and manage third party vendors and spokespeople including processing payments
  • Write strategic communications materials tailored to various target audiences
  • Coach junior team members to support their development
  • Participate in client planning and new business pitches including brainstorms, plan and presentation development
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and proactively manage up and down
  • Ensure team members are clear about project requirements, client expectations, and meet deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of six years working in the communications / public relations (agency experience is preferred)
  • A degree or certification in Public Relations or Communications is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, with clients, and with suppliers and vendors
  • Desire to grow your strategic planning skills
  • Capacity to convey ownership of assigned projects to junior team members
  • Excellent oral and written business communication skills
  • Aptitude for or interest in learning the financial management aspects of agency life including developing and managing budgets, forecasts and invoices
  • Flexibility and adaptability to execute complex projects within set parameters and timelines
  • Exceptional judgment when working with team members, client contacts and vendors
  • Attention to detail and quality work
  • A successful track record of maintaining strong and trusted client relationships
  • An understanding of social media, digital strategies and tools

Public Relations Intern

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and track media and influencer coverage in real-time
  • Develop and update meeting agendas and status reports
  • Manage research, reporting and measurement for clients, under supervision
  • Research and ordering materials for client programs, as required
  • Prepare briefing notes for clients, as directed
  • Develop and maintain work back schedules / critical paths
  • Create and update media and influencer lists, under supervision
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars as required based on project needs
  • Develop media materials first drafts (e.g. social media copy, news releases, media pitches, etc.) and conduct media/influencer outreach and follow-up
  • Coordinate media materials distribution
  • Proofreading of communications materials
  • Participating in creative brainstorm sessions for existing clients, new business prospects and internal purposes
  • Assistance with special events and event planning
  • Administrative and other related duties as required and assigned
  • Note: Computer proficiency in a variety of programs is required, notably Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams)

The candidate will also demonstrate a business development mentality both new and organic and is able to manage pitch processes.

Media Monitoring Student

Do you want hands-on learning while completing your PR education? You could play an important role on account teams through our newly created student position focused on media monitoring.

GCI Canada is an agency of idea architects. We develop smart, strategic campaigns for some of the best brands in the world—and we match our big ideas with executional excellence when putting them into action. Media monitoring and reporting play important roles in tracking program success

The successful candidate is eager to learn, demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and is able to support morning media monitoring with a 9:00 a.m. delivery deadline. The role will also include tracking and uploading coverage, which has a more flexible completion deadline.

Under the supervision of account team members, key responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct daily media monitoring for clients (shared with the account team; daily availability is desired, but not essential)
  • Prepare the monitoring reports for review by the account team by 9:00 a.m.
  • Proactively share issues or concerns in a timely manner to ensure the deadline delivery is met
  • Add coverage to the coverage trackers, as well as uploading to the reporting tools
  • Note: Computer proficiency in a variety of programs is required, notably Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams)
  • Experience with media monitoring tools such as Cision or Meltwater is an asset

This role will be responsible evaluating current and developing new employee programs, recommending improvements to employee relations policies, supporting recruitment and onboarding, enhancing our already strong culture and supporting our growing and thriving agency of Idea Architects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support development and delivery of quality policies, programs and procedures, and constantly review existing policies and methods of delivery to ensure that they are best in class and appropriate to the needs of the business
  • Keep abreast of current HR trends and participate in WPP training and development sessions to bring new thinking and ideas to GCI
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the performance evaluation process for all levels and work with leadership team on criteria for promotion
  • Provide guidance on compensation decisions for new hires, lateral moves, promotions, merit, and market adjustments
  • Collaborate with People and Culture colleagues at other WPP agencies to bring best practices to GCI Canada
  • Participate in full-cycle recruitment and onboarding process for new employees, including developing job descriptions, posting jobs, vetting resumes and supporting interview process, candidate selection, contract development and onboarding
  • Assist in the departure process, including offboarding procedures and exit interviews
  • Apply strong project management skills to keep people and culture projects on schedule
  • Make presentations on human resources-related matters to staff
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and company policies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years of full-time working experience in an HR role, preferably in a consulting or agency environment
  • Experience with employee relations, performance management and human resources policies and programs
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • Self-starter with an excellent track record of providing smart counsel and ability to collaborate with a broad range of colleagues across different levels.
